Returning to Vermont in the Summer is always bittersweet for me. It is Paradise, and Paradise creates longing. I wonder why I subject myself to New York City Summers; if I'm not going to have air conditioning either way, I'd prefer the place with immediate access to cool lake water and forest shade. But I also feel like a stranger, like my home has grown up without me, and the absence created by the relocation of my closest friends and I to bigger cities has been filled with strangers who get to enjoy the Heaven I have given up. I'm know just being dramatic though, and my home state will always be my home, just as wherever I'm living is.
